In 2009 she still confirmed among the first eight hammer throw women in the world. After three seven international places, inclusive that of the Olympiads in Peking 2008, Clarissa Claretti already turned thoughts to 2010 and the European of Barcellona. “I’m well - she says- I’m getting well from a small flu, maybe I needed just a little rest. I have begun my training on November, and I felt to need it more than in the past. I love competing and in 2009 I returned, at last, to make a lot of competitions, I didn’t have physical problems that have stopped me, so I have been able to be more constant from the technical point of view, however I missed great results.”
In the beginning of the year you have attended a training stage to Cuba with the Olympic silver medal Yipsi Moreno who had to give up the hammer throw season because of the maternity. And how did you plan your training for 2010?
“I’m still keeping contact with Yipsi and her team, I think Cuba has been a great experience for both. I know she has already restarted to train. I think she’s already ready, she’s always it! As much important for me, this year, was a direct match with some world-wide athletes and not only in field or in springboard. I keep on training in the sporting center of the Fiamme Gialle under the control of the great Bric (Gino Brichese, ndr) with who we are working on some new technical aspect about the initial phase of the throwing. They are important and I hope that also gives me some results. I believe it.”
The 2009 appointment was the World cup of Berlin where you hoped to deny your fame of “7th woman hammer throw place.” You gained an eighth place, is it all right or it has been still few for you?
“Of sure I wanted to change that number improving it, but has not been this way! On the one hand there is a competition with a markedly grown world level for medal results and for the average, on the other hand there are my dreams and the desire to do something more and new! I’ve no fear to fly and from when I’m in Aeronautics less than before! The podium in Berlin has been completely European, with also the world record, I don’t expect a 2010 simpler, on the contrary there’s still one more name to add on that podium…and that’s not mine! I don’t have a definite plan for the next competitive season yet, because changebles are really a lot, in the meantime I would like to test my capabilities during the winter competitions.”
In your target there can be also the new Italian record?
“I believe that records are there for being overreaching, Ester (Balassini, ndr) would not resent with me, of sure I want to improve my record and I don’t believe that it would be enough for a medal!”
Do you still have time to be a football ref? Has someone on the terraces already dedicated to you some banner?
“Time is always short, but I referee as soon as I can, it looks weird but for every great disappointment in this field there is immediately a great satisfaction that gives you the desire to play another match! No banners, but I often hear my name called from the galleries…and not only for complains!”
